New speed limits on B6047 and
Langton crossroads (August, 2005) &
(February, 2006)
 |
A site
meeting was held in July 2005 between County Council Highways, the
police, representatives of West and East Langton parish councils and
Kevin Feltham. As a result of residents' surveys and previous
correspondence relating to speeding traffic, the County Council is
proposing imposing 40mph speed limit through West Langton and the
crossroads. In addition, this provides the opportunity to lower the
speed limit through Church Langton to 30 mph. The results of
consultations need to be analysed later this year before any
implementation date is considered.
Proposals:
Yellow
indicates existing 30mph speed limit
Red indicates new 30mph speed
limit (from existing 40 mph)
Green indicates new 40 mph
speed limit |
A
further site meeting was held on 8th February 2006, to consider ways of
reducing the number of posts and signs at the crossroads, by LCC Highways and Dr
Kevin Feltham CC, with representatives of both East Langton and Thorpe Langton
parishes. A number of suggestions were taken away for further
consideration. The consultation on the proposals ended on
20th February 2006.
The
speed limits and new signs were installed in 2007.

Traffic calming in Tur Langton (March,
2007)
I
have been supporting Tur Langton Parish Council’s campaign to calm traffic
along the B6047 and through the village.
Representatives of the Parish Council and I met with County Council
engineers in July 2001 to look at options to help ensure drivers slow down.
Further detailed plans from the
County engineers were received, and the parish council held a
parish meeting in February 2002 to explain the options to residents, and then
made decisions about implementing an agreed and affordable scheme. The
implementation of the eventual agreed scheme was delayed until new road
surfacing on the surrounding roads was carried out in early 2004.
Numerous
speed traps have been supported by the local police to help control speeding
vehicles, especially motor cycles, along the B6047. This is a continuing
problem because the B6047 from Melton Mowbray to Market Harborough is listed in
Motor Cycle enthusiasts magazines and websites as a favourite route.
A
Vehicle Activated Sign was installed on the B6047 to the northern side of the
crossroads in the centre of the village in 2007. This was prioritised by
the unfortunate death of another motor cyclist in late 2006.

Parking problems in Church Langton (October,
2004)
There have been some problems caused by parents badly parking
on Stonton Road by the Church Langton Primary School. It is important that parents do not
block driveways to houses, farms or fields and make sure there is enough room on
Stonton Road for vehicles to pass by when they are collecting their children in
the morning and afternoon. Discussions are being undertaken to find an
acceptable solution, but the best and easiest would be for parents to be more
considerate.
If
you feel you wish to comment about this problem then please contact me and tell
me through the on-line
surgery or via e-mail.
